CONTEMPORARY TEXTURED SUNFLOWER by OLGA WAGNER

A small warm-up painting for some larger beauties.  I started this one with brushes and finished it with juicy layers of paint applied with palette knife.

DRAMATIC PALETTE KNIFE EQUINE PAINTING

This BIG boy is rather striking and looks very dramatic on the wall. Once fully dry, I will be hanging this one at the Focal Point Gallery in Chapel Hill.

CONTEMPORARY COLORFUL COW IN PALETTE KNIFE

This beastie was on my easel waiting to be finished for the past few weeks...I was hoping to finish this painting in time for my December Group Show at the Focal Point Gallery in Chapel Hill, but my mojo failed to cooperate. I guess, last night the stars aligned just right and a colorful cow was born!

PALETTE KNIFE BRIGHT FLORAL BOUQUET PAINTING by OLGA WAGNER

Here is one to pacify my family...They are always pushing me towards florals...I started this one few months back - last night I added a few more finishing touches and Voila!

Even though it is painted on a gallery wrap style canvas and can be hung unframed, I think it does look better framed...

DRESSAGE HORSE IN PALETTE KNIFE

I had another 16x20 canvas that was ready to..Actually, it was a failed painting from few months ago, that made for a perfect surface to work on using palette knives. The hardest part of this painting was deciding on the color combo for the background. Originally, I was going for something with more drama, but in the end I decided on this eye pleasing combo.

PALETTE KNIFE BRIGHT WHITE HORSE PAINTING

After finishing the lily in powerful shades of red, I wanted to continue with more reds. This painting is based on the Venice Horses of St. Mark, the bronze statues of chariot race horses with the cutest roached manes. Love...Love the power of this color palette. I wander what this would look like on a much larger scale...

BRIGHT LILY - TEXTURED WITH PALETTE KNIFE

Here is a re-vamped lily - with much more in your face textured color palette...The older rendition, though nice, did not scream "me"...Way too safe and boring...

ABSTRACTED CONTEMPORARY DOG PAINTING

I have done a few botson terriers in the past, but really enjoyed working on this one. The composition seems so simple, but it took me a bit before I was happy with it...

PALETTE KNIFE EQUINE PAINTING

Still working on the portrait of the girl - Got her left hand taken care of and worked a bit more on the background. Her right hand is almost there...I WILL finish it tomorrow...

Meanwhile here is another Palette knife equine painting - I am thrilled with the colors on this Stud Muffin Man - such a soothing palette...

BLACK and WHITE HORSE in PALETTE KNIFE

This boy was meant to be finished and dry for this upcoming Friday's group show at the Local Color Gallery in Raleigh...However, life had other ideas! With everything going on, I put the painting aside and forgot to finish the sides. It would have looked really cool displayed on the wall with my other 12 x 12 horse paintings.

BULL in PALETTE KNIFE - SOLD

As promised, I got to work on Mr. Bull. I LOVE the way he came out. The colors and textures pop on this MAN.

Pugsley is still a very sick little boy. His white blood count was pretty high and he feels pretty rotten - most likely due to the inflammation of his pancreas . He has been at the vets two days in a row now...At least he likes to travel in the car - he goes into a relaxation trance as soon as the car starts moving - it's weird, but kind of cool!

TABBY CAT ON RED and Update on Pugsley

I love the way that the color scheme makes this painting sing. The original photo was pretty bad, but perfect as inspiration.

Update on my sweet little Pugsley. He was a very good boy during his acupuncture treatment and seemed to be feeling much better following it. He even met me at the door when I got home this evening, which he has not done since he got so ill. I attached some photos of Pugsley sporting Porcupine Look.

COW GONE WRONG AND PUGLSEY UPDATE

COW gone wrong...or should I say Bull gone wrong...I am stressed and it shows...I started this bull with brushes - then after getting a "bit" unhappy with it's progress, I scraped most of it of and started slapping paint on it with the same palette knife used for scraping...Somehow I scraped of his horns and never put them back - thus we have a COW!

I still really love the original photo and will need to try my hand at a more realistic painting of the gentleman.

Pugsley is still very much under the weather. I did get home early enough today to take him into the backyard to enjoy some sun and fresh air. He really seemed to enjoy watching all the crazy hummingbirds that are visiting our feeders. Tomorrow he will visit the vet for an acupuncture session - If I remember I will bring a camera to take some shots of the porcupine-pugsley!

BOSTON TERRIER FACE

This is a remake of an earlier painting, this time using palette knives. This one was completed this morning after a decent night sleep. My boy seems to be much more comfortable and his appetite is good. He made himself comfortable in a small suitcase full of fleece remnants. See the photo (wow.. he is one cute thing!)...

ABSTRACTED EQUINE - Palette Knife

Found some time to finally finish this boy. I enjoyed the previous painting and continued using the "Buttocks" perspective... I am really loving the palette knife and what it allows me to do with the paint, but one of these days, when my brain gets out of it's chaos mode I will definitely go back to the brushes.

ABSTRACTED CONTEMPORARY HORSE PAINTING

It is amazing how artist's MOJO works and where the inspiration comes from. I found this pretty photo (see bottom of this post) in the image library on wetcavas site. The muscular buttocks spoke to me and the painting was born. Again, I wanted to stick to a very limited color palette. The colors used to create this beauty were: Royal Blue, Indigo, Carmine Lake, Naples Yellow and Naples Yellow Golden and Titanium White.
