Aly came to Safe Haven as a very scared little girl in January of 2006. She and her mother were living out of garbage cans in a neighborhood in Cary. One day they were running across a street and a car hit the mama kitty and killed her. Aly was probably about 8 mos. old at the time and now had to fend for herself. Some people in the neighborhood finally caught her and brought her to Safe Haven. She had not had any interaction with people so she was terrified and hid in her litter box or under her blanket most of the time. No one was very interested in a cat that was so scared so she stayed at the shelter week after week. All of the volunteers tried to help coax her out of her shyness as it is hard to get shy cats adopted. One of the volunteers there was captivated by her beautiful calico markings and whispered softly to her each week while cleaning her cage. One night after all the cleaning chores were done the volunteer took Aly into a playroom like she did every week and as she held her she promised that if she wasn’t adopted by the next weekend she would take her home. The next weekend came and went and so the following Saturday morning, as promised, Aly went to her forever home.

It took a long time and a lot of love and patience, but now – 4 years later, she is a happy little girl that likes spending time with her people and the other cats in the household. She is so pretty – like a living piece of artwork. She moves quietly around the house and loves sunny windows and the tall cat tree in the sunroom.

"Once in a while, when the house is quiet, she will come and sit next to us for some rubs and scratches. She has even gotten in my lap a few times lately. We don’t know what her life was like before we brought her home but we do know that it has taken a huge effort on her part to learn to trust us. "
