CONTEMPORARY SUNFLOWER PAINTING in OILS by OLGA WAGNER

I bough a really nice bunch of sunflowers over the weekend and here is a first in a series of bright floral paintings. Once again, the painting was started with brushes and was finished with strong palette knife paint application.

SUNFLOWERS #6 and #7

Two more 5x5 sunflower paintings... I have couple of larger ones in the works that will need my attention the next few days....

I would like to introduce the models for my sunflower series... I got this sunflower bouquet at Trader Joe's and they are absolutely gorgeous... The bring just the right amount of sunny splash into my living room....
 

These two larger florals have been patiently waiting for me  to start work on them. If successful both will make a trip to Rochester NY to live with my sister...

SUNFLOWER PAINTING AND ARTIST RECEPTION

Last night I felt like experimenting with a different cropping. For some reason, as an artist,  I tend to gravitate towards either the square or elongated formats. Unless it's a commissioned painting, I don't tend to use the more standard sizes in my paintings, such as 5x7, 8x10, 9x12...etc.. It's weird , I know...but I feel much more at home on a square or any combo of squares..Here we have sunflower bouquet cropped to fit on a 6x12... Pretty cool crop!

SUNFLOWER AND DAISY BOUQUET by OLGA WAGNER

These flowers are from my back yard. We have a bunch of sunflowers this year - all due to us starting to use more birdseed containing black sunflowers seeds. Maybe next year I will try and plant them on purpose.

Here is a partial shot of my background. This year we have been lucky and got a bunch of spring rain and sun, which made everything bloom extra gorgeous!
