SLEEPING SENIOR GIRL - In Memory Of...

This precious little girl passed away a little over a year ago. Her owners adopted her from a rescue when she was already 10 years old, and based on the photos I received, made her senior years very COMFY !!!

Chihuahua on green

How's this for a little "psychedelic" chihuahua. I came home from the barn today and had the desire to paint something bright and wow...the photo doesn't really do justice to the bright green background - it really screams "BRIGHT".

Again, I use a gessoed stretched canvas to work on this little dude...I made a very quick sketch using some Holbein Indigo and proceeded from there...

Another Pup

This one I started last week, and finally was able to finish it this afternoon. This painting was influenced by the work of Ron Burns. I own his Squirt print (see photo below) and absolutely love the colors on that one. My painting might not be as bright, colorful and expressive as his work, but a girl needs to start somewhere (LOL)

Bandanna Boy

I am continuing with the 12 x 12 Canvas format. I had plenty of paint leftover on my palette from the last boston terrier portrait- so here we have a chihuahua in the same color scheme. I threw in the bandanna to compensate for the thin neck.

Again, I used a gallery stretched canvas with grey gessoe. I used a pastel pencil to quickly sketch out the pup and proceeded with paint application. As you can see, I tend to work all over the canvas keeping the eyes for last.

Just like any other breed, Chihuahuas are not immune from being abandoned and/or dumped in the shelters. Since they are small, they are also a favorite amongst Puppy Mill breeders -horrible practice where the dogs spend their whole "breeding life" in the cages with no creature comforts that EVERY animal should be entitled to. I named the above painting Hope...Hope for a loving home - Hope for a better future....
