Contrast

Another hand study using mainly Torrit Grey and White. Painting hands, especially babies hands is a bit "out of the box" for me, but I find doing it very stimulating...Just another way for me to grow as an artist...

DSFDF - boat

Here is my first attempt at the Different Strokes Challenge - My hubby doesn't like it - he feels like I need the person in the painting - I kind of like the serenity of the empty boat...

Box and Jack in a Box

The hamster came out kind of "mad" looking - has that evil look in his eyes. I am thinking of having a third one with the box knocked over and the little hammy coming out.

In Memory - Friends

the latest version - Almost there...Must still work on a few things, like his front paw...

I am still tweaking this one...I was going to get this one ready in time to send it to my father for father's day, but life got in a way and I am still not done with it. - Both boys have long since crossed over the Rainbow Bridge...

Safe Haven for Cats is EXPANDING...

More Space Means More Services

SHFC just passed another milestone - adopting 4,000 cats and kittens! In 2008, 415 cats found families. This new space could help add another 500 successful adoptions per year.

Most importantly, the SAFE Care Clinic will be utilizing the current space (further down on Garvey Drive) with their expansion.

This will include building another surgery suite, hiring a second veterinarian and shooting for at least 3,500 sterilizations a year.

Since the SAFE Care Clinic opened, almost 8,000 cats and kittens have been sterilized. Together, using a very conservative estimate, over 70,000 lives have been saved.

How's this for a cutie...

I am contemplating a larger painting for a donation to Frenchie Rescue and wanted to play with the layout and color - I think something like the little man below would look spiffy on a slightly larger scale. I called him Sweets, because he looks sweet enough to eat...Yummy...

Nighttime Zen

I was feeling particularly stressed last night and when I found a photo of Buddha (from a previous Different Strokes challenge) - I knew that I had to paint it...The painting started with two flower vases, but I felt like it became too cluttered (almost like my life at the moment!), so I wiped of the half and left it feeling very simplistic...

Floral Study

We must have about 12 different varieties of Lavender in our garden. Early this spring, we noticed that our youngest kitty enjoys lounging on Lavender- and now we have a whole section in our garden devoted to this plant - all thanks to the little Pugsley...

Attired for Dressage

The photo reference for this one was taken couple of weeks ago at a Dressage competition in Raleigh NC. I don't have any detail on this perfectly turned out rider/horse combination - The horse number must have been on the other side.

Different Strokes Challenge - Pennsylvania

This is my painting for the Different Strokes for Different Folks challenge. Again - I tried painting on a red gessoed board - I love how Karin's paintings come out on the red background - For me the red background is pure hell - My eyes never really adjust to the brightness of the red gessoe.

Bully

I am continuing with the elongated format...It's fun to experiment with the layouts on these 6x12 panels. Last weekend I was helping out at horse show and was able to take a few nice photographs. Couple of these will allow for some interesting cropping...
