REFLECTION OF PEAR AND ORANGES in ACRYLICS

This one was painted in response to the January Challenge from the DPIAG Blog. The title of the challenge was "Reflections" - Entries will be posted on January 15th. This bad boy was done with acrylics on a highly textures canvas. I wish there was a good way to capture the 3D texture and depth of the various layers of color. Seems like I could benefit from photography classes!

CONTEMPORARY PEAR ON YELLOW in ACRYLICS

Last couple of weeks I have been working really hard on some Christmas Commissions.. Unfortunately due to the nature of them being surprise gifts, I don't want to post them until after the Holiday.

So here goes another Pear...This is the Larger version of the one I posted a few days ago...This one has heavy texture and incredible depth of color...Unfortunately the photo doesn't do it justice.

This one, along with all the other pears will be a STAR at the "Warm and Fuzzy" group exhibition at the Local Color of Raleigh Gallery. Opening Reception will be Friday, January 6th from 6pm till 9pm...

GREEN BARTLETT PEAR ON DRAMATIC RED BACKGROUND

Bartlett pears are a joy to paint due to their rounded bottoms and definite transition from bottom to the narrow neck area. This shape enables the artist to play-up the light against darks to create DRAMA...

BEGINNINGS OF COW AND PEAR ON BLUE

I started working on another cow painting... With this one I first primed the canvas with orange gessoe...Then after sketching a cow outline, I started working on the textured background. For the background I used acrylics...Many, many layers of high quality acrylics...The cow on the other hand will be done in Oils... This will create a cool "Combined Media" painting...

GIANT GREEN PEAR on RED

I had some red left on my palette from the large cow painting and decided to brighten up a few of my earlier paintings. Here is a Pear that I worked on earlier this year. This is a very fun and contemporary painting that will look fabulous in a 3" black frame...

Larger Than Life Pear

I picked up a few nice looking pears at the local store...But, why is it that some of the prettiest looking pears are not the tastiest. Seems like they are grown just for beauty and not the yummy factor...

PEAR STUDY

I managed to paint couple of small pear studies before devouring the tasty fruit...I was relatively happy with the way the first one (the bottom picture) came out , but it did not feel right..It was not me..It was too plain...With animals, I like to have fun with cropping and colors, but for some reason I thought that with fruit you could not do it..But then I tried and found that my FUN style worked quite nicely with this pear. Next, I must try an apple or a lemon !!!
