DSFDF - boat

Here is my first attempt at the Different Strokes Challenge - My hubby doesn't like it - he feels like I need the person in the painting - I kind of like the serenity of the empty boat...

Is your hubby an artist too? Well then, from another artist, I think this is beautiful. It does add a bit of mystery and yes it's very serene. I think you made the right choice and I'm sure there will be a slew of artist after me who will agree.

I feel like I'm posting right behind Sheila in a couple of different blog posts -- completely agree with her, very mysterious and serene. Concerning husbands, if it helps any, my husband thinks my painting is too dark...oh well, to each his own!

Thank you both - No he is not an artist, but I always value his input...

Beautiful color and brushwork! And I too like that you did something a little different...will look forward to more!

I love your piece the colors are so striking to me. Been empty it does bring mystery in your picture, if the oars were up it would suggest it has an anchor and does not intent to move but here your oars are in the water so it gives the imagination the thought that the person is in the water or asleep in the boat. I'll go with asleep, and resting. LOVELY. I like the story it creates. That's why you are an artist. You Create.

Olga, I was thinking that if I painted this one I would do the same thing - nobody in it. You beat me to it! I really like it this way, it totally changes the mood of the painting. That could be your boat or mine, waiting. Or, it could have a ghost in it! :D

I like the empty boat too- when I first clicked on I though OMG the person is missing! but then I felt the serenity.

I actually don't find this serene but totally mysterious! What a neat feeling to get from a painting...an almost eerie feel to it to my mind. I love your interpretation and your colors are divine! I am now adding your blog to my growing list of artist's blogs!

Love your interpretation- I am uncomfortable painting people so i was thinking of the same thing- it is like you read my mind. You did complete justice to the mysterious aspect. Nice work.

Love your creative twist! To me, the boat and water was the strong part of the composition and the figure seemed a bit of a distraction. Great choice!

I really like your painting. I like the fact that you left the woman out, it makes the viewer stop and look again and then give it some thought. I also like your color choices.

I disagree with your hubby! I just love the concept of the empty boat rowing itself.

No matter what I paint, my husband always tells me my paintings would look better if I would paint a big deer or a ringneck pheasant in... With that said (!) I love your entry. Very creative!

I saw this image on the different strokes site and chose to come here because yours did not include the person. I love the emptiness of the boat and the mystery it creates. I was also delighted to see that you are a NC artist. So am I. best of luck!

I too like the fact that you omitted the rower. In an odd way it does make the piece even stronger! Kudos!

Great decision to leave the figure out, it has so much more character without the woman :) Love the twisted take! Great colors.

I just scrolled thru all of the DSFDF boat paintings and I have to say yours made a huge impact on me - it is intriguing , atmospheric and moving. Also memorable. It almost took my breath away. There is a spiritual aspect to it also - Nice. More than nice - love it.

I also only clicked on your painting from the DSFDF site because there was no person in it. It definitely stands out! I wanted to know why you didn't put a person in, and if she'd fallen out, or been carried off by seagulls. Very nice spin on it.
